Introduction for Carbon Molecular Sieves (CMS) made by Kuraray Chemical Co, Ltd
Kuraray Chemical Co, Ltd (Japan) is one of the leading and biggest Activated Carbon manufacturers all over the world, which has 3 plants in Japan (Okayama), Philippines (Cebu) and China (Ningxia, Completion in August, 2005). The total production capacity is over 30,000MT/Year and the annual turnover is more than 11 billions Japanese yen (= US Dollar 100,000,000-) on the sales of high performance Activated Carbon and its related products.
Since Kuraray Chemical started Activated Carbon business in 1960's, we have been improving our own key technology – Adjustment of Carbon pore size and pore volume – and accumulating a wealth of experience.
Although customer's requests towards Activated Carbon quality are quite different depending on its applications, Kuraray Chemical has been providing the most suitable items/grades for each application (like as Gas adsorption or Solvent Recovery, etc…) based on the excellent and unique production technology.
Besides production of general Activated Carbon based on coconuts shells and coals, Kuraray Chemical, on the other hand, developed High Performance Carbon Molecular Sieves (CMS) based on coconuts shells about 30 years ago. Since then, we have been improving the quality through continuous and intensive R&D works, and achieves the CMS that has an excellent capability for separation of Nitrogen nowadays.
On the beginning stage of Japanese N 2 -PSA market, there was only coal-based CMS made in Germany. However, since Kuraray Chemical developed coconuts-based high performance CMS, almost of all N 2 -PSA manufacturers in Japan started to use coconuts-based CMS made in Japan for their N 2 -PSA plants considering its capability.
As well as producing the excellent performance CMS, Kuraray Chemical also manufactures N 2 -PSA plants with the brand name of ‘KURASEP' using own CMS. Combining the sophisticated engineering technology and the excellent performance CMS, we have been receiving high reputation from enormous numbers of customers due to its remarkable capabilities and quality stability.
Also, in order to penetrate N 2 -PSA market in Japan, Kuraray Chemical has been collaborating with Iwatani International Corporation (Japan) that has been quite familiar with industrial gas markets. Through this effective collaboration works, we have been catching up the market-needs, and improving our N 2 -PSA capabilities smoothly.
In the result, Kuraray Chemical fully succeeded in N 2 -PSA business with an expansion of PSA market volume in Japan, and has been keeping the top-share in the market for more than 10 years. Furthermore, currently we have been expanding the sales to overseas largely.
Until today, Kuraray Chemical has built more than 2,000 N 2 -PSA plants in the range of 1.0 to 2,500 Nm 3 /Hour at Nitrogen purities of 94% to 99.999%.
Kuraray Chemical is a very rare and specific manufacturer that possesses the excellent production technology of high performance CMS and sophisticated engineering know-how for N2-PSA plants. And we export our high performance CMS to major PSA plants manufacturers worldwide, like as America, Europe (BOC, LINDE etc), China (Wenzhou Ruiqi etc), India and so on, with quite high quality reputation.
Kuraray Chemical has been providing these local partners with our unique and sophisticated PSA engineering technology based on our more than 30 year's experience periodically together with stable supply of high performance CMS.
Furthermore, Kuraray Chemical highly focuses on R&D activities for improving and developing new products. In our R&D center, we are keeping intensive works for developing further improved CMS with 40 experienced staffs and 10% of our annual turnover as the budget.
